1. Do you remember your first flight as a pilot?
MS: My first flight took me along the east coast of Florida in fantastic weather, 150 m above the beach at Miami; an unforgettable experience.
2. How many flying hours can you look back on?
MS: About 1,600 hours
3. In which Flying Bull aeroplane would you prefer to do a risky landing manoeuvre rather than use a parachute?
MS: A pilot always aims to land a plane safely.Jumping out is always the last option. But there are only a few planes which give you this possibility, for instance the Extra-300. She?s my absolute favourite at the moment.
4. F-22 or Corsair?Airbus 380 or B-25?
MS: Each of these planes has its own special charm when you look at the period in which it was built, its performance data and what it is used for.
5. If you could choose any plane, which would you like to fly, and why?
MS: Douglas DC-3, North American P-51D Mustang, Grumman F-14 Tomcat and many, many more. The reasons are as varied as the planes themselves, performance data, design?
6. Is there a (technical or design) feature on your aeroplane/helicopter which particularly intrigues you?
MS: The design and construction of a double decker make it incredibly fascinating to me ? and the fact that you don?t come across these planes very often.
7. Which (flying) characteristics on which type of aeroplane/helicopter do you find particularly fascinating? And which do you view critically?
MS: The challenging flight quality of an Extra-300, Pitts or Christen Eagle II puts particularly high demands on the pilot?s flying skills during the extreme conditions of an acrobatic flight. The high roll rate and the +/- g force tests every pilot to his performance limits.
8. Have you never had an uncomfortable feeling when boarding or during a flight because of the age of the machines?
MS: No, definitely not, because Flying Bull planes are in excellent technical condition, probably better than they were when they were built.
9. What was the most turbulent flight you?ve ever had?
MS: I remember a flight to Milan when we experienced extreme turbulence for a while between several thunderstorms.
10. Which machine should definitely still be added to the Flying Bulls collection?
MS: A Douglas DC-3!
