Martin "Toni" Angerer

1. Do you remember your first flight as a pilot?

TA: Yes, pretty well. It was the first flight I took during my training to become a private pilot, which I did while studying in Ampfing. It was all very new for me as a ?new boy?, but at least I didn?t feel sick and it was wonderful to see the world from above.

2. How many flying hours can you look back on?

TA: About 5,900 hours.

3. In which Flying Bull aeroplane would you prefer to do a risky landing manoeuvre rather than use a parachute?

TA: I would only ever jump out of a plane with a parachute if the machine had actually caught fire or if a defective undercarriage prevented a safe landing even in ideal conditions. But for the Flying Bulls? planes I would really stay put until the very last second ? for all of them!

4. F-22 or Corsair? Airbus 380 or B-25?

TA: Let?s swap the F-22 for the Eurofighter ? and I won?t take either-or, I?ll take them all!

5. Which aeroplane would you like to fly if you could choose any, and why?

TA: The Airbus A-380.

6. Is there a (technical or design) feature on your aeroplane/helicopter which particularly intrigues you?

TA: I?m always fascinated by the delicately designed fly-by-wire on the Alpha Jet.

7. Which (flying) characteristics on which type of aeroplane/helicopter do you find particularly fascinating? And which do you view critically?

TA: As I?ve already said: the Alpha Jet reacts very sensitively. But you cannot leave it by itself in instrument flight because it has a slight spiral instability.

8. Have you never had an uncomfortable feeling when boarding or during a flight because of the age of the machines?

TA: No, never.

9. What was the most turbulent flight you?ve ever had?

TA: It was a Eurofighter testing in April 2006 and I?d unintentionally overloaded the plane with 10.3 g (instead of 8.8) (the emergency G override was still active then). That was pretty exciting! But the plane is so robustly built that no final load capacity was exceeded and it could fly again four days later.

10. Which machine should definitely still be added to the Flying Bulls collection?

TA: F-104 Starfighter
